Homeschooled children have certain advantages over children in conventional schools, however, as our kids get older, certain disadvantaged also begin to show. And the top one on my list is socialization. There is no question in my mind, that socialization for the homeschooled child can pose a bit of a challenge.
However, just because there is a challenge doesn't mean there is no solution.
There are many ways to engage in social activities outside of the typical school system. One of the best is after-school extracurricular activities
Activities for the Homeschooled child:
Take Karate for discipline and strength
Participate in a basketball or soccer team
take art lessons
Guitar/piano/voice lessons
Take dance lessons
Join gymnastics.
Encourage high schoolers to dual-enroll in a local community college.
Join a local homeschool support group.
homeschool co-op
And so much more!
